There’s nothing to dance!: Counterculture, Hollywood musical cinema and rock opera

This paper analyzes films like “Jesus Christ Superstar” (Jewison, 1973), “Tommy” (Russell,1975) and “Pink Floyd: The wall” (Parker, 1982), inspired by rock opera albums, tofind out if there are characteristics that move away from traditional elements presentin classic Hollywood musical cinema, as can be seen in films like “Top hat” (Sandrich,1935) and “Singin’ in the rain” (Donen and Kelly, 1952). After the interpretation, findingsof a rebellion against the traditional are detected in films inspired by rock opera.Downloads
