Descriptive analysis of the use of an educational social network by Systems Engineering students

Abstract

Introduction: Educational social networks are relevant technological tools that contribute to student learning. In this context, this study presents the results of Ingeniemos.Net among Systems Engineering students. Objective: To characterize the uses of Ingeniemos.Net, an educational social network designed to promote knowledge acquisition among Systems Engineering students in Manizales, Colombia. Method: A quantitative approach was adopted, with a cross-sectional, non-experimental and correlational design. During the measurement period, the population consisted of 303 users from four universities. The statistical procedure included a descriptive analysis of the use of the social network, followed by a correlational analysis of the content. Data were extracted directly from the platform database. Results: The findings indicate that the platform contributes to students’ participation and collaboration, as reflected in the frequency and nature of their interactions. Discussion: Students show a higher level of interaction —through comments and “likes”— on posts related to workshops and classes, demonstrating their interest in using the Ingeniemos.Net social network to fulfill their academic responsibilities.
